#AutismMovies

Showtime!

Coming soon, to an internet connection near you!

I have assembled as small collection of Autism/Asperger’s themed movies and documentaries over the past few years.

  • I am also searching for other Autism themed movies as an ongoing project

I will be listing them here, with a synopsis of the story.

  • A You Tube clip that captures the essence of the main Autism theme and/or a link to the movie/documentary website, will also be included where available

I hope this will be a useful resource for the Autism community.

I expect there are many more Autism movies that I have never seen or even heard of, so I would encourage you to submit these, with or without a synopsis.

Asperger’s themed

Savant themed

Other Autism themed movies

Other Autism documentaries

I’ll be adding reviews regularly, so please visit again.

The movie Rain Man was based on the life of Kim Peek. At the time, it was believed that he was autistic, and most people still believe that. But the current theory is that he actually had a more rare genetic condition known as FG Syndrome. People with FG Syndrome can also be savants. Kim Peek’s IQ was in the mid eighties, about half way between average and mentally retarded.

    Thanks Aspie Kid.

You make a very good and interesting point. The Savant aspect of Raymond Babbits character was inspired by Kim Peek, whom Dustin Hoffman and other members of the Rain Man Production crew spent time with.

The Inclusion of Autism as part of Raymond Babbitt’s character resulted in a fascinating 2 hour, simultaneous presentation, of 3 spectra.

    – Intellectual
    – Autistic
    – Savant

I’ll be developing this further, in my Rain Man movie review.

Have you considered reviewing “Loving Lampposts” and “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” ? The first one is a documentary. The other is a feature film. Keep writing, I am learning so much about relating to my son. Thank you!

Thanks for your suggestions. I haven’t seen either of them yet, so I’m adding them to my project list. Glad you’re enjoying my Postcards from the Edge of the Spectrum.

I found a horror movie with an autistic character called “Dark Floors” (2008). Caught it on the Independent Film Channel (IFC).

“As Good as It Gets” with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt was terrific, although I don’t remember what his exact condition was.

There’s a new one called “The Story of Luke” that’s currently available on iTunes. It’s about a young man with Asperger’s trying to find a job and a girlfriend.

Hello, I am enjoying your posts. I recently watched “Billy the Kid” on Netflix, which is a documentary film based on autistic named Billy.

For anyone interested in the documentary movie “The Children of The Stars”, I will be regaining the rights to the film in May this year and I will make it available for people to download on various popular platforms. Feel free to contact me if you need any info. Best. R.
